The mind is made up of two parts - the conscious and the sub-conscious. The conscious mind takes control of everyday planning and decision making and the sub-conscious influences the conscious mind based on past experience, ideas and beliefs etc.
When trying to deal with an issue, we instinctively use the conscious part of the mind to try to change how we feel and behave, however the problem or behaviour is often retained in the sub-conscious. Hypnotherapy works by combining specialised psychological therapy with hypnosis to reframe unhelpful ideas and beliefs and achieve what you want.
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is simply a trance-like state. It's different from sleep and closer to a relaxed state of wakefulness where breathing and heart-rate slows and brain-waves change. Once in trance, a person is open to suggestion.
Hypnosis is a natural and effective technique for unleashing our potential, changing unwanted habits and behaviours and finding solutions to problems and concerns. It is quick, effective and safe.
All hypnotic trance states are characterised by a tremendously pleasant state of relaxation.
You may be surprised to know that trance a very common state which everybody automatically drifts in an out of from time to time. The feeling can be compared to being totally absorbed while watching a film or reading a book, to the point where you don’t notice what else is going on around you. This trance-like state or focused attention is similar to what happens during a hypnotherapy session.
People experience hypnosis in slightly different ways – it’s a very personal thing, usually described as being rather like being in a daydream.
